1. How do I install Check My Words?

The installation process is easy and takes about 3 minutes on a high speed connection.

Step 1: Click the Download button on this page and click "Run".

Step 2: Follow the installation wizard.

Step 3: Click "Run Check My Words" or access the program from the start menu:
Start > All Programs> Check My Words > Check My Words


2. Do I need Microsoft Word to use Check My Words?

Yes.


3. I received an error saying that I don't have sufficient rights?

To install Check My Words / Mark My Words you need to be using a computer account with "full rights".

Solution:

- Log off from your computer and re-log in under an "administrator" or "power user" account.

- Try the installation again.

5. Is Check My Words compatible with Microsoft Word 2007 / Word 2010?

Yes, Check My Words is completely compatible with Word2007 and Word2010 documents. Just click the Add-Ins tab.


6. I have installed Check My Words but the toolbar disappears! What should I do?

Sometimes the problem occurs when you have launched Microsoft Outlook BEFORE launching Microsoft Word, then you may find the Check My Words toolbar 'disappears' in your Microsoft Word. To get the toolbar back, simply access the Microsoft Word menu:
View> Toolbars> Check My Words

You can also close all your Microsoft Word / Outlook documents and then re-launch the program from the start menu:
Start > All Programs> Check My Words > Check My Words

Note: If you are still not able to find the toolbar, try to re-install Check My Words


7. (HKUST users) How do I use Check My Words in the computer barns?

Check My Words is available in all the computers in the ITSC computer barns around the campus. You can access the program from the start menu:
Start > All Programs> Check My Words > Check My Words

Note: You need to close all Microsoft Word documents before launching Check My Words


8. How do I launch the writing checklist?

Some useful resources are available under the program menu after you have installed Check My Words. You can access the resources program (e.g. Writing Checklist) from the start menu:
Start > All Programs> Check My Words >Resources

Then the writing checklist will appear:
